Mission Statement

We strive to preserve and promote the history of Jewett and Leon County for future generations. We also have many interesting artifacts of general historical interest.

Museum Board

Barbara Miles, President
Barbara and Jim own the It’ll Do Ranch on CR #347. Barbara is on faculty with the English department at Sam Houston State University.
 

Jack Sanders, Vice-President
Jack and Joyce own the Double J Ranch in Jewett. Jack is retired after many years of service from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. 

Carol Beddingfield, Secretary/Treasurer
Carol is a career math teacher at Leon High School, who also teaches dual-credit courses for Navarro College. In addition to her position at the museum, Carol serves as Board President of the Jewett Public Library, located adjacent to the museum.

 Margaret Heggins, member
Margaret retired from Leon Elementary, and is very active in her church and community. In addition to her service on the JHM board, she is a member of Jewett Citizens Watch, an organization that assists local law enforcement through numerous fundraising efforts.

Maida Simpson, member
Maida and her husband, John “Brother” Simpson, are very active in their church and community. The Simpsons are members of Jewett Citizens Watch, an organization that assists local law enforcement through numerous fundraising efforts.

Jim Miles, facility maintenance
Jim and Barbara own the It’ll Do Ranch on CR #347; Jim is retired from service on the B-RI Railroad and from Leon County as Commissioner, Pct. #; he currently ranches full time and oversees maintenance issues at the museum.
